Frequently Asked Questions

My school is NOT participating in the Secondary School Theatre Festival. Can I still Participate?

Yes! A student will register for convention and select Undergraduate Auditions or Interviews (or both), and upload their materials.

Can I audition AND interview for undergraduate school?

Yes! Please contact Lee Crouse lee@setc.org so that he can open an additional application for you

My school is participating in the Secondary School Theatre Festival. Can I still audition/interview?

Congratulations on being selected to perform at SETC!! Second, YES! Make sure your teacher informs Lee Crouse lee@setc.org that you are in the festival AND participating in the auditions/interviews so that we can make sure your audition/interview schedule does not conflict with your festival performance.

Can I pay for my convention registration before my audition/interview application is complete?

Yes. If you have already started your application, you will need to un-check the application in your profile, submit your payment for convention registration, and then check the application again. The application will be saved at the last point you saved it and you can continue to work on it.  Please note that you will need to pay the increased application fee if it is not submitted by the early-bird deadline.

I am having issues with my application. Is there anyone who can help me?

Yes! Please email Lee Crouse lee@setc.org. We are happy to help you with any section of your application, however, you MUST reach out for help with your application before the application deadline.

Can I submit my application before my references respond?

No. References are a required section of the application. You will not be able to submit or pay for your application until your references are complete!

My reference is having trouble accessing the application. What do I tell them to do?

Have them email Lee Crouse lee@setc. We can walk your reference through the process.

I missed the deadline. Can I still send in my audition/interview application?

No. Because of the amount of time it takes to process applications, assign audition numbers, book venue space, and schedule auditions, we are unable to allow students to submit late applications.

SETC offers high school juniors, high school seniors, and college transfer students the opportunity to audition or interview and display portfolios for all participating recruiting schools in one convenient location. Candidates will upload audition materials/digital portfolios and recruiting institutions will create a Gallery page in our virtual convention platform. Recruiters can review auditions and application materials, identify the candidates with whom they’d like to speak further and schedule an interview through an online conferencing platform. All interviews will take place during the convention dates. Students from anywhere in the country can register for convention and participate in the audition/interview process.

Due to the recent weather events causing school closures, power outages and delays, recruiting institutions will receive a link to access candidate materials on March 1. If you have not registered, the deadline is Feb. 28. To register for the convention, click here and select the Undergraduate or Graduate Auditions add-on. Once you complete and pay for registration, you will be sent a link to complete the Undergraduate or Graduate Auditions application. Here you will need to upload any materials that you wish to share including audition video or portfolio items depending on if you are auditioning for performance programs or interviewing for technical programs.
Due to the recent weather events causing school closures and power outages, we have delayed the release of the recruiting schools list. The link to the galleries will be emailed to you at 8 a.m. ET, Monday, March 1. You can search, filter and sort the schools – and “star” programs that are most interesting to you.

Interviews/Callbacks:
When a recruiting program is interested in speaking with you, they will email you directly and ask you to visit their page, review their information, and click on the “Schedule a Meeting” button. This will allow you to schedule a meeting with a program’s representative.
Please Note: Some schools may not have a page or button to schedule a meeting. Those schools will directly email you and provide instructions on how they plan to connect with you.

Recruiting Schools

All candidates have created individual pages that include their contact information and interview materials (for technical candidates) or audition videos (for performance candidates). Due to the recent weather events causing school closures, power outages and delays, recruiting institutions will receive a link to access the Undergraduate and Graduate Candidate materials at 8 a.m. ET, Monday, March 1. Candidates are sortable, searchable, and you will have the ability to “star” candidates most interesting to you.

Interviews:
You need to provide a link that provides auditionees with the ability to schedule an interview during the week of the convention (we recommend outlook, calendly, appointlet, or acquity scheduling) and a video conferencing platform (we recommend zoom or gotomeeting) where the interview can occur. You set the times and dates that work for you.
If you have not already provided this link when registering, you will need to contact SETC with your link to insert that onto your page for you.

Interviews can happen in two ways

  1. You reach out to a candidate
Using the candidate materials we provide you, identify the candidates you wish to invite to an interview, locate their contact information on their candidate page, and reach out to them directly to utilize your scheduling link to set up an interview.
  2. The candidate reaches out to you
Similar to a traditional in-person year, if you are participating in the Educational Expo, attendees will also be able to view your organization’s materials via the virtual Educational Expo. If you have provided a scheduling link, they will be able to book an interview even if you do not contact them.

Please Note: If your institution has opted out of an Educational Expo booth and communicates with a candidate, please establish a process for how the candidate should connect with you.
