2022 Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 2022 SETC Convention! Volunteer Submissions are now open. SETC’s 2022 convention will be an experience like no other. The convention will be held in Memphis, TN from March 9-13.

About Volunteering

SETC is looking for volunteers who already have the skills/experience or want to learn how to manage a theatre conference. SETC selects over 100 volunteers for the event who must attend training/preparation meetings and engage in some day-to-day coordination.  Some positions for shorter periods of shadowing and learning are available. If you are willing to commit 10 hours of your time to volunteer, SETC will waive your convention registration fee. Positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteers must be current SETC members during the time of convention. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age upon sign up to participate.

Experience Preferred in:

  • Retail Service (credit card processing)
  • Event Planning
  • Audio/Visual Assistance
  • Stage Management
  • Photography/Videography

 

Volunteer Areas

Info Hub / Convention Gear
Maintain the Information Hub station, answer general convention questions, and update the Message Boards.

Registration Desk
Assist with processing convention registrations at the registration booth. Answer general convention registration questions.

Design Competition
Assist with ushering and supervising the various Design Competition displays. This may also include processing design competition entries and registrations.

Exhibit Hall
Assist with ushering and supervising the Commercial Exhibits and Ed Expo booths when exhibitors are away. Provide guard assistance to staff.

Special Events Setup
Assist with the setup for banquet, receptions, mixers, etc. Tasks could include decorating, ushering, taking tickets, take down, etc.

Theatre Job Fair
Assist with ushering, watching booths, handing out materials, checking badges and guarding the area against “gate-crashers.”

Professional Auditions
Jobs vary in this area. Depending on your skills, you may serve as an usher, runner (callback board poster or errand runner), callback room assistant, or time-clock keeper. Note: Those participating in the Professional Auditions may not volunteer in this area.

Undergraduate & Graduate School Auditions
Jobs vary in this area. Depending on your skills, you may serve as an usher, runner (callback board poster or errand runner), callback room assistant or timeclock keeper.

High School Theatre Festival
Assist with crowd control, ticket taking and ushering. Depending on your technical skills, you may be recruited in another capacity.

High School Stage Management Team
Assist the Production Stage Manager with any tasks or responsibilities needed for the High School Theatre Festival. Specific roles will be assigned and outlined upon arrival for the day.

Onsite Festivals: Fringe / 10-Minute Play / Theatre for Youth
Assist with crowd control, ticket taking and ushering. Depending on your technical skills, you may be recruited in another capacity.

Please Note: If you are participating in any additional activities, such as auditions, special events or Theatre Job Fair, you are responsible for clearly communicating to the Volunteer Coordinator your desired schedule to avoid conflicts.

Production Assistants

These volunteers are a specially picked group of volunteers who will work with Professional Theatre Representatives in a wide variety of services. For more info contact Professional Services Manager Elizabeth Theodora at elizabeth@setc.org

 

Professional Audition Interns

Assist with all aspects of running the Spring Professional Auditions. Persons who did not pass the SETC Professional Screening Auditions or who will be auditioning at Convention are not eligible for these positions. Job Squad

This energetic and detail-oriented group is dedicated to the Theatre Job Fair area. These volunteers run the Theatre Job Fair and assist in set-up and registration. For more info contact Professional Services Manager Elizabeth Theodora at elizabeth@setc.org
