As Item #1 of the SETC Values Statement, our organization is committed to the following:
We believe that all people deserve access to theatre, and that theatre better reflects life when everyone is a part of the conversation. We pledge to make our organization, conferences, services, and products available to all, to create a welcoming environment to as many people as possible, and to identify, address, and eliminate barriers.
To support, SETC is offering “Access Registrations” to our annual Convention and other events.
WHAT’S THE PROGRAM’S INTENTION?
This fee waiver accessibility program is intended to assist individuals who truly cannot afford Convention registration and who might be from underserved communities, are marginalized people, are under-employed, or are experiencing financial hardship. SETC’s intention is to be supportive of all people and all circumstances.
WHAT’S THE VALUE OF CONVENTION?
SETC’s Convention packs big value. SETC goes beyond just the hiring/recruiting opportunity of other events and offers over 400 additional programs including keynote speakers, workshops, interest group meetings, panel discussions, networking events, and scholarships/awards/grants. If you are unsure of your path in the business, SETC offers access to a 360 degree experience/connection to the industry. No matter where you are in your career or preparation to enter the theatre workforce, SETC has something for you.
ARE THERE BOTH IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL OPTIONS?
Yes! SETC is hosting a full in-person Convention in Memphis, TN from March 9-13, 2022. It’s important to note that attending in-person is the most dynamic and productive experience for the attendee. It gives the opportunity to meet several prospective employers/schools for callbacks, job fair, and recruiting, train with some of the best theatre professionals in the country, and network with others who have similar interests and affinities. However, SETC is offering our core services virtually if you are unable to travel. A listing/description can be found here.
CAN I PAY SOMETHING OR MAKE A CONTRIBUTION?
SETC is a non-profit organization and revenue is important to offset expenses for a 4,000 person Convention and year-round operating. If you are able to pay something toward Convention registration, SETC would be grateful for your mutual investment. We also kindly encourage those who can support someone else’s attendance to make a contribution here (please select designation “EDIA”)
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE APPLICATION?
The Access Registration application asks for some substantial demographic data. None of it is required, but it is requested so that SETC might better understand our constituency and further develop this fee waiver program.
WHO IS ACCEPTED AND HOW MANY WAIVERS ARE AVAILABLE?
A cap for the number of Access Registrations offered will be established by the SETC Central Office based on applications and SETC’s ability to financially accommodate. SETC will accept ALL applications until the ability to accommodate is exhausted. Putting your application in early will be helpful to you.
WHAT’S INCLUDED AND WHAT’S NOT?
Convention Registration (with access to all activities and events) is included. Travel, hotel, and meals are not included.
