Concentrations in: Musical Theatre, Acting, Directing, Design & Technology, and Stage Management Our production labs, state-of-the-art black box theatre, and well-equipped proscenium main stage theatre serve as inspiring backdrops to the work we do alongside students. From classical to contemporary comedies, dramas, and musicals, our audiences and students are treated rich experiences. Our student-first company model, our high production values, our enviable facilities and our academic successes are just some of the many special aspects of our program. We have established invaluable professional theatre partnerships with the American Players Theater, PCPA Theatrefest, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Renaissance TheatreWorks, and Fireside Dinner Theatre. Professional Guest Artists regularly contribute to our programming. Many of our students intern, apprentice or are employed in the professional theatre prior to graduation. Each semester we take all of our students to see professional theatre productions in Milwaukee or Chicago and integrate those productions into our courses.
The UTC Theatre Division combines performance and production activities within a liberal arts environment to develop collaborative artists, while serving the community. By providing a strong foundation in the traditions and disciplines of theatre, the academic program encourages the artists to take risks, make compelling choices, and think independently. Our goal is to produce graduates who bring an informed awareness of the world to their art, while preparing them for a variety of career paths.
The USD Theatre Department promotes excellence in education, research and service by fostering student engagement and leadership; exploring new questions, techniques and practices in the theatre; and supporting the principles of Inclusive Excellence by valuing diversity and inclusiveness throughout every sector of the department. Our program offers the only bachelor of fine arts in the state and is dedicated to taking talented individuals and helping them realize their artistic dreams. We prepare students for professions in acting, musical theatre, design technology and many more. Students will be equipped with the talent and tools necessary for immediate professional work, graduate studies or instruction.
Recognized both nationally and internationally, an assortment of opportunities and experiences are made available in the USC Upstate theatre program. Practice and learn theatre arts first hand by playing a role in a campus production, designing scenery for a play, directing, playwriting, or studying the history and literature of modern and classic theatre. Bodies, voices and the actor’s technique are developed to the maximum potential through a variety of performance classes, which train students in classical, traditional, and experimental styles of theatre. Theatre students learn production and performance skills that enrich their lives and prepare them for careers in professional, educational or community theatre. The Louisiana Tech University School of Theatre provides comprehensive training in the fields of performance, dance, movement, stage combat, playwriting, stage management, design, theatre technology and arts management which connects the broad spectrum of historical and contemporary issues related to art and craft; and in promoting the relationship between theory and practice, prepares professionals and teachers for leadership in national and international culture and art for the twenty first century. The purposes of the School of Theatre are to educate and train artists of the theatre and to provide for its students a foundation of professionalism and dedication to their art within a climate of diversity, discovery, and risk.
