Radford offers BA and BS degrees along with several minors in theatre through our comprehensive liberal arts curriculum and production programs. We are deeply committed to teaching and value each student’s individuality while providing close interaction among students, faculty and the community. Production forms a vital component of our teaching and students take material from the classroom and apply it to pre-professional experiences in our theatres. Theatre majors work in modern, state-of-the-art facilities that are comparable to many professional theatres. Located in Porterfield Hall, the 490-seat Pridemore Playhouse has a 40-foot proscenium opening, state-of-art lighting and sound, hydraulic pit/apron, and full counter-weight system; the Hawes Blackbox Theatre has flexible seating/lighting arrangements to promote staging experimentation; fully-equipped scenic/costume studios, a sound lab, and a design studio equipped with computers and CAD software. There are a significant number of scholarship funds available to theatre majors —several specifically awarded to incoming freshmen.
